Aqua Tofana© Green (Available 6 April)
This design is inspired by Aqua Tofana, there was a network of very talented poisoners operating in Italy in the 17th century who sold secret poisons hidden as cosmetics to women to help them escape abusive marriages.
Aqua tofana was a mixture, it was said, of arsenic, lead, belladonna and cantharidin. You could precisely time when your victim would leave this world and it was undetectable.
It is believed that Giulia Tofana inherited the recipe from her mother and in Rome she set up an apothecary with cosmetics but secretly sold the famous poison to other abused women who had no other way to escape their marriages, later the business and the secret passed to her daughter Gironima and a small circle of incredibly talented women, in the end Gironima was betrayed by one of her customers, which uncovered the secret.
The illustrations are inspired by paintings of romanticism and baroque aesthetics, the green color is inspired by the color of poison components such as arsenic, whose use became so fashionable in the Victorian era in the clothing 💀🌿
